How I Got Started With Internet Marketing

Internet Marketing Head Start

People often ask me how I got started in the world of Internet Marketing and how I came to go from a broke high school smart ass, to making 60k over 2 months (legally), broke again and now living what I truly believe is the new American dream.

I work from home as a consultant, blog about the things that interest me most and I am able to spend time with a startup I am truly passionate about.

A good friend of mine, Brandon Na of Seattle Organic SEO invited me to tell the story live last night on his radio show so I thought I’d share it with you.

We go over how I hustled more money as a kid, got started early in technology and how you can make the most of your lifestyle situation.

Building a sustainable business is all about how well you can gather and maintain an audience. An email list is still one of the most viable ways to do just that.

We wanted to find a way to build an email incredibly fast, in a way that people actually find interesting, engaging and well - cool. It took a lot of testing to weed-whack through all the hype and find something that really worked.

The result? We ended up building our own solution, focused around the idea of contests and rewarding people for taking the actions that ultimately led to more leads on our email list. Everyone wins (and some literally do!), because as it turns out people love contests regardless of their market place.

Hey Jay! Thanks for listening. That’s right, I haven’t seen you since we were at the Tesla dealership – even with John Chow out of town we should try to do a “Dot Com Pho” on our own here in Seattle for a few Saturday’s a month.

Hey Travis and Jay,

I do believe the Tesla dealership was last time I met with you guys as well. I talked to John Chow about continuing Dot Com Pho Seattle before he left town and he said it’d be a great idea. I could shoot and edit the meet-up. I meant to contact the main Seattle attendees to see if they were interested but haven’t yet simply because I’m not sure how often I can make it because I have to be at my son’s hockey practice on Saturday’s. So Sunday’s are better for me… Actually, I can do weekdays easier than I can do weekends. If you guy’s are up for it, let’s try to work out a time and do it! I can always use a nice large bowl of pho!

BTW, I’m going to try to get your interview on my MP3 player so I can listen to it on the commute home tonight.
