How to launch a WordPress Plugin

by Travis Ketchum · 8 comments

Andrew Warner, the Founder of Mixergy has interviewed some big name entrepreneurs that would even make the most seasoned startup green with envy.

He’s scored interviews with people like Andrew Mason, Founder and CEO of Groupon Gary Vaynerchuk and more.

When he approached me to do an interview I was (obviously) flattered and immediately obliged. He’s straight to the point interview style has helped me by drawing out the more subtle and lesser known details of why certain people have found what at first glance looked like overnight success.

The reality as you probably know is that every success is a grind and you can easily count 10 failures for each single win.

Andrew wanted to dive in and ask me how I launched Contest Domination, what worked and how I stumbled in the beginning. I don’t hold back, so check out the interview and if you like it let him know in the comments on his website by click the link below.

Building a sustainable business is all about how well you can gather and maintain an audience. An email list is still one of the most viable ways to do just that.

We wanted to find a way to build an email incredibly fast, in a way that people actually find interesting, engaging and well - cool. It took a lot of testing to weed-whack through all the hype and find something that really worked.

The result? We ended up building our own solution, focused around the idea of contests and rewarding people for taking the actions that ultimately led to more leads on our email list. Everyone wins (and some literally do!), because as it turns out people love contests regardless of their market place.

Hey Travis, it’s awesome you’re on Mixergy! I’m a big fan of the show and love Andrew’s interview style. I’m downloading the interview now for the drive home tonight. Looking forward to it!

Thanks Harlan, I hope you like it! Let me know what you thought about it after you’ve had a chance to get through.. I know it’s long so it’s much appreciated.

Hey Travis, that was a great interview! You revealed some really good stuff about creating a software product. I’m sure I’ll be developing some sort of software in the future as my business grows and I find an area that demands a product. I’ve actually listened to the interview twice paying particular attention to the sales funnel part. I’m getting ready to create a membership site and the email list is obviously going to be a major part of it. I remember when you announced you were going full time into your business and looks like you’re crushing it now. Congrats on your success!

Thanks Harlan! I’d love to see your product when it’s ready and offer any advice if I can/you want it πŸ˜‰

Great interview at Mixergy. It was really interesting listening to how you got your plugin setup. It’s nice to hear that actual numbers that these things cost.

I’m also a customer of Contest Domination and it’s a great piece of software. Kudos.

I appreciate you sticking through the video πŸ™‚ I remember seeing you running a contest before on the software and I’m glad you like it. It’s worth noting that not every launch can be super successful, I just launched another plugin on the forum and it didn’t do nearly as well (but still did ok).
